Dr. Ladd is an internationally recognized orthopaedic surgeon and academic leader with deep expertise in upper extremity surgery, medical education, and clinical innovation. She brings to the Board significant clinical insight and a broad perspective on patient care, surgical practice, and the integration of emerging medical technologies into clinical environments.

Dr. Ladd has spent more than three decades practicing orthopaedic surgery at Stanford University, where she is currently the Elsbach-Richards Professor of Surgery and a professor of orthopaedic surgery and, by courtesy, professor of medicine in immunology and rheumatology at Stanford University Medical Center. She also serves as chief of the Robert A. Chase Hand & Upper Limb Center at Stanford and Chief of the Children’s Hand Clinic at Lucile Salter Packard Children’s Hospital, where she has practiced since 1991. Her clinical and academic focus includes congenital hand differences, adult hand reconstruction, and functional biomechanics of the hand and upper limb.

She has held several leadership roles at Stanford and currently serves as vice chair of academic affairs in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery. Nationally and internationally, she has contributed to the advancement of surgical education and practice through leadership, board, and committee service for the American Society for Surgery of the Hand, the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, and the Association of Bone and Joint Surgeons.

Dr. Ladd is also a longstanding educator and mentor, having trained over 200 residents and fellows and published extensively on topics in hand surgery with a current focus on the cause and treatment of base of thumb arthritis. Her scholarly work and thought leadership have informed approaches to surgical technique, clinical outcomes, and innovation in medical devices, holding over 20 filed or issued patents and trademarks.

At Intuitive, she serves as a member of the Compensation Committee, and contributes clinical, scientific, and educational expertise, helping inform the company’s efforts to advance surgical care through technology and training. She has also served on the Board of Directors at Allakos, a biotechnology company developing treatments for allergic and inflammatory diseases.

Dr. Ladd earned a bachelor’s degree in history from Dartmouth College and her medical degree from SUNY Upstate Medical University. She completed her orthopaedic residency at the University of Rochester and the Harvard Combined Hand Surgery Fellowship at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Massachusetts. She was a fellow at L’Institut de la Main in Paris prior to joining the Stanford University faculty.
