Dr. Barratt is a seasoned technology executive and engineer with a distinguished career in leading high-growth hardware and software companies. He brings to the Board extensive experience in digital systems, semiconductor technologies, wireless communications, and artificial intelligence, along with a deep understanding of innovation strategy and product development in rapidly evolving industries.

Dr. Barratt most recently served as senior vice president and general manager of the Connectivity Group at Intel Corporation, where he oversaw multiple engineering teams and drove strategic initiatives to integrate and scale networking solutions across the company. He joined Intel through its acquisition of Barefoot Networks, where he had served as chief executive officer.

Prior to that, he held senior leadership roles at Google, first as vice president and then as senior vice president and CEO of Google Access, where he led Access and Energy, including Google Fiber and other broadband and infrastructure projects.

Previously, Dr. Barratt served as president and CEO of Atheros Communications, a pioneer in wireless semiconductors. He led the company through a successful IPO and its acquisition by Qualcomm, where he became president of Qualcomm Atheros. Before his appointment as CEO, he served as Atheros’s vice president of technology.

Dr. Barratt has served as a member of the Board of Directors at Intuitive since 2011: as a lead independent director from 2018-2020 and beginning again in 2025, and as chairman from 2020-2025. As a member of the Governance and Nominating Committee, he provides expertise in digital technology, product innovation, strategic planning, and business development. He also serves on the boards of several public and private companies, including Astera Labs (Nasdaq: ALAB), Ayar Labs, and Atmosic Technologies, and as an advisory board member of the Stanford Center for Digital Health.

Dr. Barratt holds bachelor’s degrees in electrical engineering and pure mathematics and physics from the University of Sydney, as well as master’s and doctoral degrees in electrical engineering from Stanford University.
