Stephen Thompson is vice president and general manager of worldwide indirect (WWI) at Intuitive, where he oversees commercial strategy, development, and performance across more than 45 countries on six continents. Under his leadership, the WWI business supports nearly 300,000 procedures annually and delivers consistent value to patients, surgeons, and health systems in indirect markets.
Since joining Intuitive in 2007, Thompson has held multiple leadership roles across U.S. and Asia-Pacific commercial organizations. These include senior director of key accounts in the United States, director of capital commercial operations for Asia Pacific, and senior director of APAC direct commercial operations, where he led sales integration and training strategy for new markets. He played a key role in the transition of Taiwan, India, and China from distributor-led to direct operations and helped launch scalable sales models and global channel strategies across emerging markets.
Thompson assumed responsibility for WWI in 2020 while continuing to support APAC commercial operations through 2023. Under his direction, the WWI business has doubled in size in four years. In 2024, his role expanded to senior vice president to reflect the increasing scope of the business and his leadership in building a high-performing global team.
Prior to Intuitive, Thompson held commercial leadership roles at US Labs, where he specialized in diagnostic services and sales management.
He holds a Bachelor of Arts in English from Drake University.
